My name is Beth (Umbstaetter) Lear and I love Delaware County. I was raised here from the time I was 2 years old, went to Olentangy Local School and graduated from there in 1985. I am thrilled to be able to raise my children here so that they may enjoy this wonderful community just as I did.

I did not expect to be running for State Representative. After all, I’m just a regular track and soccer mom. But I love this country and my beautiful Ohio and I’ve watched the politicians from both sides run our state into the ground over the last 20 years. I know it’s time for a change.

To get Ohio back on track we’ll need leaders who aren’t stamped from the same old political mold or beholden to special interests or party bosses. We need folks committed to smaller government, lower taxes, American values and the freedoms for which our Founding Fathers fought and died.

I understand how state government works even though I am not an experienced ‘politician’. I was a legislative aide for nearly a decade, and I’ve seen the process up close, watching both the principled statesmen that you don’t hear about and the self-interested deal makers that somehow always seem to forget their campaign promises.

I’m trained in public policy, too. I was asked to work for the Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions when I left the legislature. I specialized in education issues and also worked on economic, labor and government transparency and accountability policy.

As a wife and mother of two, I understand the difficulties families are facing in this economy. In spite of our financial turmoil, our country remains a beacon of freedom to the world. I know our exceptionalism will lead us to a great future. We just need to elect people who know government is not the answer to our problems, Ohioans are.

This year will be a momentous one – our future as a free nation hangs in the balance. You deserve the opportunity to vote for people who share your values and the values of our forefathers.

This is what I believe in: “All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.”¹ If you believe this too, I ask that you vote for me in the Republican primary on May 4, 2010.

  2. I can not agree with you in 100% regarding some thoughts, but you’ve got an interesting point of view.

    Hi Beth,
It was so good seeing you at the gathering at Leigh’s house.
I have a personal question regarding my oldest son (Trevor soon to be 18 in June).
He is making life changing decisions about college.
He is considering joining the Ohio National Guard. Knowing you had experienced this yourself, and Brian and I basically do not any point of reference to what advice to give him. Anything you can share pro or con would be helpful.
    Thanks Beth for your input,
love to you and your family.

    Until all have heard,

    Angel

Hi! I would like to know your opinion on legalizing the sale of raw milk in Ohio, as they are considering doing in Wisconsin.

    Beth,
You make a compelling presentation. But tell me, why should I trust you when so many others have made similar sounding presentations but then turned out to be both untrustworthy and more than a bit tone deaf? Do you feel you have the moxie to stand up for “The American Way” when so many of our other elected officials have forsaken it?

For one am glad for this insightful content. Quite often, the greatest ideas come from the blogs one would not expect. Not long ago, I decided not to give so much thought to commenting on blog page posts and have left feedback even less. Reading through your interesting piece of writing, may well help me to take action again.

I too would like to know your stand on legalizing the sale of raw milk in Ohio. There are many people getting back to homesteading and organics. Many other people do not have the option of homesteading but would like to have the option of purchasing products from a homesteader such as raw milk as it is more nutritious and less allergy prone. Homesteaders have been fighting with government and “big Dairy” since the 1930’s and scientists have proven that raw milk is far better for you than “PROCESSED” milk that adds chemicals and destroys the natural enzymes and nutrients of the milk. It is because of this processing that we have so many people with Dairy intolerance.

What are your thoughts on the Tenth Admendment and saving Ohio from High Taxes and forced health care?

  11. JB says:

I would like to express my appreciation for your post. That’s really great to know that there are such people like you who do their job very well and with such enthusiasm.

  12. Jake Longhi says:

It’s like you took the words right out of my mouth. Seriously, great job.

When Beth and I were younger we fought for Freedom by serving our country. Beth went on to fight for our Freedom as a legislative aide for one of the most conservative stateman I know, Ron Hood. She even went so far as to directly challenge the then Speaker of the House, Joann Davidson, regarding a vote on a conservative issue in the halls of the State House. So I would defintely say to Bruno, “Yes, Beth has the moxie to stand up and fight for our beliefs!” I would never have agreed to throw our family to the “wolves” if I thought for one second that she would cave to peer pressure! I have told many people in the last few months that I would be the first in line to vote her out if she caves and I mean it! Beth has the experience to get the job done, but is beholden to no favors or special interest groups! She has endorsements because these folks believe in Beth and what she stands for, Freedom, Liberty, small Government, Lower Taxes, and a return to our Constitutional Rights! “It’s Clear! Vote for Lear!

Hang in there Beth… You almost made it this time. as the fiscal carnage and mindless government expansion continues there will be a real need for some one with the survival and well being of the country and its citizens as TOP priority. Your time will come..I just hope it isn’t too late to save us all.
